Description:
To reach the Bignami refuge there are many paths, the one, we describe in this article, is the easiest and with the most direct and fast access to the refuge, suitable for families even with small children.
The start of the route is located in Campo Moro,a small place in Valmalenco ,easily accessible with our cars through an easy road but fairly narrow that goes up from Chiesa Valmalenco; arrived in Campo Moro we will find multiple parking, the first is located near the Rifugio Zoia, a large and free parking from which our description starts.
Arrived at the refuge Zoia, as previously mentioned, we will find a large parking where we will park our car, once abandoned the car we will continue straight along an asphalt road that will lead us to the second dam of Campo moro, known as dam of Gera, the road remains paved for the first 100m and then become dirt.
We will arrive at the foot of the dam where it is possible to find a second extremely large parking where it is possible to leave the cars and avoid about 10' of walk, just at the end of the parking. the dirt road continues towards the dam, but a bar prevents the passage to unauthorized cars; we can continue to follow the dirt road, however we will also find paths with a fairly high slope that will allow us to cut part of the path.
Once at the foot of the dam, near the houses of the keepers,we will find a small cemented climb that will lead us to the dam that we will cross to move to the left side of the lake.
Once crossed the dam we will find a short challenging stretch with high slopes on a path carved between the rock,in this short stretch on the right we will find metal wires that delimit the path and make it safer;at the end of these 200m the path will descend slightly thanks to some steps.
From now on the path goes up with slight slopes immersed in meadows and rocky boulders,in this stretch of path we can admire the beautiful lake and we are already able to see the Fellaria glacier;in some sections where the path is slightly landslide to increase its safety some ropes have been put but they are completely useless since the track remains always wide and beautiful.
Only in the last 300m of the path, the slopes increase considerably and the path goes up through some hairpin bends towards the refuge that we will reach without major difficoltà.Il rifugio is located at the Alpe Fellaria, a beautiful resort, where we can admire the Piz Palu and the Fellaria glacier from where in the summer months fall cascades of water that pour into Lake Gera.
